Gastroscopy
Equine gastroscopy is a diagnostic examination that allows veterinarians to directly evaluate the inside of a horse’s stomach. During the procedure, a long, flexible camera is carefully passed through the horse’s esophagus and into the stomach. This provides our veterinarians with a clear, real-time view of the stomach lining, helping them identify abnormalities such as ulcers and inflammation. By visualizing the stomach directly, gastroscopy allows for a more accurate diagnosis and helps guide an appropriate, targeted treatment plan.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy involves the use of a tiny camera (endoscope) to evaluate the inside of a structure, most commonly the upper airway (respiratory tract) and guttural pouches. While performing endoscopy, we are able to visualize the area in real time using a small screen which is also able to capture photos and videos which may be shared with the client or referral center for further diagnosis. Endoscopy is most commonly used to investigate horses with abnormal breathing, exercise intolerance, respiratory disease or guttural pouch abnormalities.
